Why did you decide to become an OpenStack Days Nordic partner?
Globally, Mellanox is deeply involved with the OpenStack community, and it’s of imperative importance that we show our dedication, commitment and support to the region. We have a great story to tell, a wonderful synergy between technologies and we’ve found the best way to progress our partnership is to engage at a local level. This way we can cater to the requirements of the market and our partners in the region.
What do you hope to get from the event?
The event presents an amazing opportunity for us to learn about the needs and requirements of the Nordic market and of course, to meet people that are enthusiastic as we are about OpenStack! We are delighted to sponsor this event and look forward to meeting the OpenStack community in Copenhagen.
What are your thoughts on the Nordic OpenStack community?
We see the Nordic OpenStack community as an innovative, knowledgeable and progressive group and – the Nordics as a vibrant, exciting arena. In short, we are learning from it.
We see companies, like City Network, deploying OpenStack based solutions in scale – that alone is a great indication as to the maturity of the OpenStack ‘mindset’ in the Nordics.
How is your company involved in OpenStack?
Mellanox Technologies offers seamless integration between its products and OpenStack layers and provides unique functionality that includes application and storage acceleration, network provisioning, automation, hardware-based security, and isolation. What do you love most about OpenStack?
First of all, as an open platform, OpenStack is much more than meets the eye – It’s a genuine cloud ‘tool-kit’ and its modular format means you can utilize tools when needed. Put simply, it’s the combination of flexibility and proven performance that’s on offer – private cloud, public cloud, NFV, containers – OpenStack simply adds value across the board.
Have you been involved in other OpenStack events and what was your take away from them
Having had some involvement in a number of events, it’s evident that the level of general awareness and in-turn utilization is rapidly increasing. Moreover, the events represent an incredible platform for 360-degree knowledge transfer. Irrespective of position within the industry – it’s a great learning experience and insight into best practice.
What is, in your opinion, the single best thing about OpenStack?
Technology aside, there’s only one answer. It’s simple. The people.
Looking at the horizon, what do you think the future of OpenStack looks like?
Given the evolving market and rate-of change, it’s difficult to be definitive, but I’d certainly say ‘blue skies ahead’! One thing’s for sure, we are in the midst of a transition and pre-conceived notions as to ‘the way to do things’ are constantly being challenged.
